ship’s log 3: cat approved

Since we officially purchased the boat, we eagerly anticipated returning to the UK and transforming her into our home away from home! Following our holiday in Croatia, we made some arrangements and were able to take another week off just a few weeks later. This time, of course, we brought the cats along! They hadn’t seen the boat yet, and we were excited to see their reactions.

After a 13-hour car ride, we arrived in Brighton. Once we completed all the formalities, we finally stepped aboard our boat for the very first time. The week was filled with cleaning, organizing, and enhancing the space to feel like home. The cats loved boatlife immediately, running around below deck and soaking up the sun on deck. Their favorite thing became watching all the seagulls and fish! We can confidently say: they love the boat!

In other news, we needed to finalize the insurance and certification, which required us to decide on a name for the boat. When we bought her, she was named ‘Veerless’ - the nickname of the previous owner’s partner. Lacking any personal connection to the name, we opted for a change - but choosing a new name proved to be more challenging than anticipated. We wanted something short yet meaningful.

After considerable thought and discussion, we settled on the name ‘Lív’. Lív is a Nordic female name signifying ‘shelter’ or ‘protection’. In modern contexts, it also translates to ‘life’. Could there be a more fitting name?
