By the end of March 2026, we will have said goodbye to our apartment and our jobs — and in early April, we’ll leave Switzerland to move aboard our sailboat full-time.

This is, without a doubt, the biggest adventure of our lives, and we can hardly wait for it to begin. At the same time, we’re feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. Stepping into this new chapter brings endless curiosity about what lies ahead, and that’s part of what makes it so special.

We do have a rough plan for where we’d like to go, but when you live on a sailboat, nature always has the final say. Wind, weather, and timing will decide what’s possible — and we’re ready to embrace that uncertainty.

Our journey will start by heading up the Dutch coast, then crossing Germany via the Kiel Canal before sailing across the Baltic Sea to Sweden. From there, we plan to travel through Sweden using the Göta Canal, passing Lake Vättern and Lake Vänern. Through the Trollhätte Canal, we’ll leave mainland Sweden behind and enter Norwegian waters. If all goes well, we’ll continue sailing north along Norway’s stunning coastline — all the way to the North Cape.

But as everyone knows, plans are meant to change. While we’re working toward this route and hoping everything comes together, only time will tell where the wind will ultimately take us.

We’ll be sharing updates from our journey here on the blog, on our Instagram channel, and — for our Swiss friends — with occasional updates on Polarsteps.

Thank you so much for following along and being part of our story. The adventure is just beginning!

Explore the world with us aboard our 40ft sailboat

Karin only sailed for two weeks before she fell in love with the freedom of this lifestyle. Initially, we where just joking about buying a boat and sailing around the world. But after many discussions and a stroke of fate in our personal life, we decided to live our lifes to the fullest and just go for it.

We scoured countless online listings and found our heart's desire in the Moody 40 design. With a bit of luck, we found one within our budget – and the rest is history.

Now, we are diligently working to make our boat sea-ready. Our first major goal will be the Northcap in Norway, after which we will head south and hopefully cross the Atlantic ocean one day. The anticipation and determination to embark on this adventure motivates us through even the smallest tasks. It is a journey that has just begun and promises to offer us much more than just sailing.
